Eric Olson
I have been a science teacher for 28 years and am currently working at the State University of New York - Oswego where I lead courses to train teachers at the childhood and adolescence level. As a sculptor I've completed several projects in marble and alabaster. Typically my work explores some aspect of science such as topological surfaces and
work reflecting themes in the development of scientific disciplines.
In calling this piece "Probability Function" I am trying invoke the ideas of quantum mechanics in asking the question of human existence. This is my first work using Antique Verde, but certainly won't be the last. It is an amazing material to carve. Harder than most other material I've worked with, it requires a fair effort to develop an effective technique in working the surface. The effort is more than worth it as Verde will conform to any line I have the skill to make and the lustrous richness of the finished surface is amazing.
